Former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard Folayang was triumphant in his return to the Mall of Asia Arena.
Former ONE Championship Lightweight World Champion Eduard ‘The Landslide’ Folayang was victorious in his return to the Mall of Asia Arena, defeating previously unbeaten Russian Combat Sambo world champion Aziz Pahrudinov via Unanimous Decision at ONE: Reign of Kings, Friday evening.
Looking to bury the bitter memories of his previous trip to the MoA Arena, wherein he lost his lightweight world title via a vicious knockout, Folayang came out strong, battering Pahrudinov’s legs with hard kicks.
Pahrudinov immediately went into grappling mode, as he managed to take Folayang down, but the former champ quickly bounced back up.
Pahrudinov hit a nice trip to take Folayang down again, ending the round on top of the Pinoy MMA hero.
The Team Lakay star continued to work on Pahrudinov’s legs in the second round, landing an array of hard leg kicks and oblique kicks, leaving the Russian’s left leg red and battered.
Pahrudinov rushed Folayang for a takedown in the final round, but Folayang manages to escape and fight off a clinch.
Folayang managed to stuff a few more of Pahrudinov’s takedowns in the third round, but the Russian muscled Folayang back down late.
Folayang spun away, but got caught with a solid left from Pahrudinov in the dying seconds of the match.
After three rounds of action, Folayang did enough in the judges’ eyes to earn a unanimous decision win.
Now with back-to-back wins against a pair of tough Russian grapplers, Folayang moves another step closer back to lightweight world title contention.
He improves to 20-6 in his MMA career.
