Baguio Jiu-Jitsu is definitely taking over.
Once criticized for their percieved lack of grappling, Team Lakay has definitely made strides in the past few years in terms of their ground game development.
Stars like Eduard Folayang, Geje Eustaquio, and most recently, Joshua Pacio have all utilized their much-improved wrestling and submission defense, which in turn have translated to world championship wins.
Now, Baguio Jiu-Jitsu, as the members of Team Lakay like to call it, has also made its way into grappling competitions, and last weekend, a pair of Team Lakay stars managed to take home some medals.
Representing Academia John Baylon - Clube De Jiu-Jitsu Filipinas, former ONE Featherweight World Champion Honorio "The Rock" Banario and top featherweight contender Edward "The Ferocious" Kelly each took home three medals at the 2018 Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) Philippine Internatonal Open.
Banario took home three gold medals, while Kelly took home one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal, both competing in Gi and No-Gi matches.
"My first BJJ competition, three golds in a row," Banario shared on his Facebook page
"It was a great experience playing with Gi and No Gi. Learning process on the go," Kelly expressed on his Facebook page as well.
The excellent showing is a good bounce-back for Banario, who recently fell to top lightweight contender Amir Khan via submission. Banario vowed to get back on track, and this is definitely a step in the right direction.
Kelly on the other hand, is coming off a win over Christian Lee via disqualification.
