ONE: Fernandes fully aware of Belingon's improvement
“Kevin Belingon has improved immensely. I have seen him grow as a competitor over the past few years,” - Bibiano Fernandes

Throughout his five-year reign atop the ONE Championship Bantamweight Division, reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes of Brazil has taken on all comers, and has prevailed each time.

With seven successful title defenses to his name, Fernandes is considered as the most dominant champion in ONE Championship history, setting the record for most successful title defenses in the promotion’s seven-year existence.

Come Friday, 9 November at ONE: HEART OF THE LION in Singapore, Fernandes will put his title on the line once again, against a familiar opponent in reigning ONE Interim Bantamweight World Champion Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon of the Philippines.

While Fernandes has already turned Belingon back before, the Brazilian star has witnessed his rival's marked improvement since their first encounter back in 2016.

“Kevin Belingon has improved immensely. I have seen him grow as a competitor over the past few years,” Fernandes stated during the ONE: HEART OF THE LION global conference call. “I know that in our rematch, Kevin will be a completely different fighter.”

Since falling to Fernandes via submission over two years ago, the 29-year old Belingon has been on one of the most impressive winning streaks in ONE Championship today, running through six straight opponents, four of which were former world title contenders, and taking care of business in dominant fashion.

As significant as Belingon’s improvement has been, Fernandes is still very confident in his capabilities inside the cage.

The defending champion is on a fourteen-match winning streak of his own and hasn’t been on the losing end of a decision since 2010.

“Nevertheless, I am very confident that my skills are enough to beat him again. Yes, he is dangerous, but I will control the pace of this fight and the outcome,” Fernandes said.

“I am not taking Kevin Belingon for granted, and I am training harder than ever to make sure that I triumph over his best version yet in Singapore,” he added.

At 39 years of age, Fernandes could very well be on the tail end of his career, but the “The Flash” has showed no signs of slowing down. Against Belingon, Fernandes says that he has no plans of letting his title slip through his hands.

“I have held this World Title for a long time, and I’m not about to give it up now,” he proudly proclaimed. “I am ready to go the full five rounds, but I am also ready to finish the bout by knockout or submission when the opportunity presents itself.”
