ONE: Teammates' title wins helped motivate Kevin Belingon
"Naka-ilang belt na yung Team Lakay, and siyempre nacha-challenge ako sa mga teammates ko kasi nakuha nila yung title nila," - Kevin Belingon

Reigning ONE Interim Bantamweight World Champion Kevin "The Silencer" Belingon has the opportunity become the undisputed king of the bantamweight division when he faces reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano "The Flash" Fernandes in the main event of ONE: Heart of the Lion on Friday, November 9th in Singapore.

For Belingon, this highly-anticipated rematch is the result of over two years of hard work and a six-fight winning streak.

"I’m very happy to be in this spot, to face Bibiano again," Belingon said during the pre-event press conference, Wednesday. "After nung laban namin noon, talagang na-challenge ako na i-improve yung weaknesses ko. Ayun, nagtuloy-tuloy yung panalo. Ngayon gusto ko na makuha yung undisputed belt this Friday."

Aside from avenging his 2016 loss to Fernandes, Belingon says that another source of motivation is the success that his Team Lakay teammates have been enjoying this year.

Belingon is just one of three current ONE world champions in Team Lakay, along with reigning one Flyweight World Champion Geje Eustaquio and newly-crowned ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua Pacio, all of whom won their titles in 2018.

"Naka-ilang belt na yung Team Lakay, and siyempre nacha-challenge ako sa mga teammates ko kasi nakuha nila yung title nila," Belingon said.

Eustaquio began 2018 by capturing the ONE Interim Flyweight Championship with a win over former champion Kairat Akhmetov in Manila. Eustaquio went on to unify the titles by defeating two-time champion Adriano Moraes in Macau.

Pacio on the other hand, gained a measure of revenge over two-time champion Yoshitaka Naito to become the new strawweight king in Jakarta just last September.

Belingon captured the interim crown by defeating former two-division champion Martin Nguyen in Manila.

This time around, he hopes to be able to drop the "interim" label from his title run.

"Nakaka-dagdag sa confidence ko para sa laban na ‘to. Gagawin ko lahat para manalo sa laban na ito," he added.

Should everything go according to plan for Team Lakay, Belingon won't be the last member of the team to win a world title in 2018, as former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard Folayang looks to be the first two-time lightweight champion in ONE history when he meets Singaporean Amir Khan for the vacant title in Manila on November 23rd.

ONE Championship: Heart of the Lion will air LIVE on Friday, November 9th at 8:30 PM on ABS-CBN S+A channel 23!
