Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres looks to end 2018 on a high note as she is scheduled to go toe-to-toe with former ONE Women’s Atomweight World Title challenger Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi on Friday, 7 December.

These outstanding mixed martial artists are set to collide on the stacked undercard of ONE: DESTINY OF CHAMPIONS, which takes place at the state-of-the-art Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Torres, who trains out of Catalan Fighting System in Makati, announced her arrival in the atomweight division when she submitted Thai martial arts hero Rika “Tinydoll” Ishige in her promotional debut at ONE: KINGS & CONQUERORS in August 2017.

She authored the perfect follow-up to her stunning victory over Ishige by dominating Nita Dea over the course of three rounds to claim a unanimous decision in November 2017.

Two months later, Torres shocked the world once more by knocking out Team Lakay’s April Osenio in just 40 seconds, which set a record for the fastest stoppage victory in ONE Championship’s women’s history (the record was broken a month later by Bozhena Antoniyar).

As “The Zamboanginian Fighter” continued to build momentum towards the upper echelon of the weight class, she was disrupted by Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol, who handed her the first defeat of her professional career in September. She lost via unanimous decision.

Eager to get back on the winning track and place herself among the division’s elite, Torres is ready to do whatever it takes to kickstart another impressive run to the top.

Standing in her way is Yamaguchi, a pioneer of the women’s mixed martial arts scene in Japan. She holds a record of 17-11-1, with nine stoppage victories on her resume.

The 35-year-old Tokyo native fell short in her second bid to become the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion when she dropped a unanimous decision to Singaporean star Angela Lee last May.

Like Torres, “V.V.” looks to return to form and maintain her status as one of the top contenders in the organization’s stacked women’s atomweight division.

In addition to this three-round clash, 10 more bouts have been announced for ONE: DESTINY OF CHAMPIONS.

The bill will be headlined by a ONE Super Series Muay Thai featherweight contest, which features the legendary Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex taking on Australia’s Luis Regis.
