Former ONE Featherweight World Champion Honorio "The Rock" Banario eked out a unanimous decision victory over India's Rahul Raju at ONE: Conquest of Champions, Friday evening at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila.
Facing a short-notice opponent in Raju, Banario started out strong in the first round, setting up his takedowns with his superior striking skills.
The bigger Raju rallied in the second round, exploding for a takedown early in the round. Banario managed to pop back up and again pick Raju apart in the standup department.
Raju again shot in for a takedown, but was met with a kimura attempt, and then an armbar attempt for his troubles.
In the final round, Raju continued to use his mass against the smaller Filipino as he looked to bring the fight back down to the mats.
Banario managed to counter and wound up on Raju back, looking to finish the bout with a choke, but was unable to finish.
In the dying moments of the match, Raju tried to get one more takedown in, but was instead countered with a standing rear naked choke attempt, but was saved by the final bell.
After three rounds of action, Banario picked up the unanimous decision win.
