ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua Pacio kicks off 2019 with a title defense against Japanese grappler Hayato Suzuki
Team Lakay's youngest champion, Joshua "The Passion" Pacio will be the first Filipino ONE world champ to defend his title in 2019 as he puts his ONE Strawweight World Championship on the line against a familiar foe in Japanese grappler Hayato Suzuki in the main event of ONE: Eternal Glory in Jakarta, Indonesia on January 19th.
One announced the massive rematch on their official website Friday evening.
The two first crossed paths back in 2017, when a debuting Suzuki ran through Pacio in Macau with a first-round submission victory.
Since then, the 22-year old Team Lakay standout has won his last four bouts, including a world title win over Yoshitaka Naito to dethrone the two-time champ as the strawweight king back in September.
Pacio is one of five current reigning Filipino world champions under the ONE banner, joining stablemates Eduard Folayang, Geje Eustaquio, and Kevin Belingon, as well as long-time heavyweight king Brandon Vera.
Suzuki, meanwhile, has won three straight fights of his own, including a submission win over Thai striker Pongsiri Mitsatit, the same man that Pacio beat to earn a world title shot.
ONE: Eternal Glory will take place at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta.
