"If I get the opportunity to knock him out, I will do that. If God permits I will even go for a submission. If I have the opportunity, I will take it and not let it slip away." - Geje Eustaquio
Geje "Gravity" Eustaquio does not plan to leave his fate in the hands of the judges when he takes on Adriano "Mikinho" Moraes for the third time in the main event of ONE: HERO'S ASCENT at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila this coming Friday, 25 January.
Eustaquio, the current ONE Flyweight World Champion, first met Moraes at ONE: RISE OF THE KINGDOM in September 2014 where he lost by way of a second-round submission.
The 29-year-old Team Lakay standout evened the score with a razor-thin split decision at ONE: PINNACLE OF POWER last June, a result which could have gone either way.
This time around, Eustaquio is targeting a decisive win in his first World Title defense, owing to some new tricks up his sleeves.
"This time, there will be more surprises for Adriano Moraes. I hope I can implement those and get the win on fight night," said Eustaquio.
"If I get the opportunity to knock him out, I will do that. If God permits I will even go for a submission. If I have the opportunity, I will take it and not let it slip away."
Like Eustaquio, his head coach in Mark Sangiao is also gunning for the finish, knowing how dangerous Moraes can be.
With the way Eustaquio trained for this bout, Sangiao is convinced that “Gravity” will prevail and he is ready to get that finish over his tough Brazilian foe.
“What we want to happen in this trilogy is to finish the fight by either knockout or submission,” said Sangiao
“Geje is more prepared and more confident this time. He is in better shape as well for this fight.”
But if they fail to end it early, Eustaquio vows to put on a performance that will leave no room for doubts about the result.
"In the event that the fight goes to the judges, I will make sure that it's going to be a landslide decision in my favor.”
