"Some people are saying it was a lucky shot, that I just got the timing right. I don’t want to defend myself from them." - Jeremy Miado
Filipino strawweight Jeremy "The Jaguar" Miado will leave no stone unturned in proving that his victory over former ONE Strawweight World Champion Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke was not a fluke.
The pair will meet on the main card of ONE: CALL TO GREATNESS on Friday, 22 February at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, and Miado will look to shock the world once again.
Touted as a heavy underdog in their first encounter, “The Jaguar” walked out of the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand with the ‘upset of the year’ as he knocked out the Thai legend just 81 seconds into their match-up at ONE: IRON WILL in March 2018.
It took just one right hand from Miado to end the evening for Dejdamrong, but with the quick win comes the doubters.
"Some people are saying it was a lucky shot, that I just got the timing right. I don’t want to defend myself from them. I understand why they think that, which is why I readily accepted this rematch," the 26-year-old Manila resident shared.
"They are entitled to their opinions, but for me, whenever I have an upcoming match, I prepare for it to the best of my abilities to show what I can do. That’s how I have always been – win or lose, I give my everything out there."
"Kru Rong" immediately returned to his winning ways following that contest. Mostly known for his striking, the Singapore-based Thai also displayed more in his arsenal when he submitted Himanshu Kaushik in the second round at ONE: HEART OF THE LION last November.
Meanwhile, Miado is coming off a sensational second-round TKO victory over Peng Xue Wen at ONE: CONQUEST OF CHAMPIONS last November, making this rematch a must-watch.
'I know that Dej really wants to avenge that loss and is really preparing well for this match. Let’s see who will come out on top this time around. I do want to give him a chance to prove himself in the cage because it really happened so fast," the Filipino stressed.
"I am doubling the effort of my preparation now compared to last time because I know that he won’t be the same person that I competed against. He will surely be motivated to avenge his loss, so I need to be ready in all angles – be it on the ground or against his striking."
Furthermore, "The Jaguar" is convinced another win over Dejdamrong would not only put him on the radar for a World Title shot, but it will also cement his name as the finest striker in ONE Championship's talent-rich strawweight division.
"You can expect that this will be an exciting match between two skilled strikers, and we’ll show who the best striker is in our division,” he added.
Not the kind to look past an upcoming foe, Miado said that his sole focus at the moment is getting his hand raised in Singapore.
However, the Manila resident knows a strong performance here would definitely elevate his status in the weight class.
"Hopefully, I get to compete against one of the top contenders for the World Title, but right now, I’m only focused on my match against Dej," he said. "Still, no matter who I face next, I will still prepare for it well."
