- Danny Kingad
Team Lakay flyweight standout Danny "The King" Kingad earned a spot in the upcoming ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix after defeating Tatsumitsu Wada via decision last January.
Now, the 22-year old Baguio City-native is looking to beat out seven other flyweights for the title of ONE Flyweight Grand Prix Champion, and his first assignment will be former bantamweight title contender Andrew Leone.
The American wrestler is no stranger to Team Lakay, as the famed Benguet-based MMA stable has already gameplanned for Leone before.
Back in 2018, Leone was a stop in reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin Belingon's path to the title, and by all accounts, it did not go well for the American, as he found himself on the wrong end of a vicious spinning-back kick that went viral.
The well-timed kick to the body was the beginning of the end for Leone, and it became part of Belingon's growing highlight reel.
If it were up to Kingad, he would also like to dispose of Leone in a similar manner.
Belingon, for his part, said that he's confident that his Team Lakay teammate can pull it off as well.
As for words of advice from his Kuya Kevin, Kingad shared that he was told to put the pressure on Leone from the get-go.
Danny Kingad and Andrew Leone face off in a ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix Quarterfinals Matchup at ONE: A New Era on Sunday, March 31st at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan. Catch it LIVE on ABS-CBN S+A channel 23 at 6:00 PM.
