"She has to be explosive and impressive in her upcoming fight. We cannot afford to have a third consecutive defeat." - Rene Catalan on Jomary Torres
Catalan Fighting System head coach Rene Catalan hopes to see some sense of urgency from Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres as she faces China’s Lin “Fighting Sister” Heqin.
The two are set to go at it in a three-round women’s atomweight clash at ONE: REIGN OF VALOR, which emanate from the Thuwanna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar on Friday, 8 March.
"She has to be explosive and impressive in her upcoming fight. We cannot afford to have a third consecutive defeat,” Catalan said.
It has been a rough few months for Torres as she suffered consecutive decision losses to Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol and Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi.
More so than helping Torres prepare physically, Catalan is also working on Torres’ mentality, especially as it is tough to rebound from two-straight defeats.
However, Catalan is just thankful that his prized ward is not going to fold that easy.
"I told her to take those losses as a learning experience, and that we must properly execute our game plan moving forward,” he stated.
“She was in high spirits even after losing. Everything I tell her she absorbs.”
As for their preparation, Catalan is happy to see that they went through camp without an injury, something that she had to deal with in her last two bouts.
Now that the camp went well, Catalan hopes to see the Torres of old as they target a decisive victory in her cage meeting with Lin.
"Our training went well this time around unlike her last couple of fights when she had problems with her ankle," he bared.
"We might go for a stoppage in this fight. We are prepared to do everything. We already have a game plan that only needs to be followed."
