ONE: Rene Catalan demolishes former champion Naito
Rene Catalan improved to six straight wins after demolishing former champion Yoshitaka Naito

Filipino strawweight contender Rene "D'Challenger" Catalan scored arguably the biggest win of his MMA career after dismantling former ONE Strawweight World Champion Yoshitaka "Nobita" Naito en route to a dominant first-round TKO victory at ONE: Reign of Valor, Friday evenin at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.

A world-class grappler with two world title runs in ONE Championship, Naito made it clear that his gameplan was to take the bout to the mat.

Catalan, a multiple-time Wushu Champion, came prepared however, as he managed to stuff and stop Naito's attempts, while delivering punishment from the top position.

After getting into a favorable position, Catalan proceeded to rain down some hard punches and hammerfists, bloodying Naito and eventually forcing the referee ro step in and stop the bout.

The stoppage came at the 4:32 mark of the very first round.

"Yung gameplan ko was ina-knockout ko siya in the first round, or if hindi ko makuha, in the second round," shared the 40-year old Catalan, who finds himself in prime position for a title shot after scoring his sixth consecutive win.

Catalan improves to 6-2 in his MMA career.

Catalan's student, Jomary Torres, wasn't as fortunate earlier that night, as she suffered her third consecutive loss, this time via submission against China's Lin Heqin.

Taking on a long and rangy opponent in Heqin, Torres decided to take the fight down to the mat, which ended up becoming her own undoing, as she found herself almost immediately trapped in a deep Triangle Choke.

Torres tried to fight out of the submission attempt, but ultimately had no choice but to tap out.

After a strong start, Torres drops to 4-3 in her MMA career.
