Co-main eventers Joshua Pacio and Yosuke Saruta face off in Manila
Just days removed from their historic maiden fight card in Tokyo, Japan, ONE Championship heads back to Manila for the second time this year for ONE: Roots of Honor on Friday, April 12th at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Before 30 of the world's best martial artists take center stage in Manila, they shared the stage for the official Roots of Honor kick-off press conference, Tuesday afternoon at the City of Dreams Ballroom.
Martin "The Situ-Asian" Nguyen of Australia and Narantungalag "Tungaa" Jadambaa of Mongolia faced off before their main event bout for the ONE Featherweight World Championship.
Nguyen, the defending champion, looks to make it two successfull title defenses at featherweight, while Jadambaa, the former champion, is looking to regain his spot atop the divison.
"I'm truly honored and humbled to be going against a legend like Jadambaa himself. It's a true blessing to be back in the Philippines, it's my fourth event, it's a blessing to be performing in front of you guys," said Nguyen.
"It's an absolute honor for me to be in Friday's match against Martin Nguyen," Jadambaa said. "On Friday, I bring more courage and more resilience built on my previous experiences.
"Age doesn't matter, and I speak from experience," said the 43-year old Mongolian.
Also sharing the stage were co-main eventers Joshua "The Passion" Pacio of the famed Team Lakay stable out of Benguet and Japan's Yosuke "The Ninja" Saruta. The two will meet in a rematch for the ONE Strawweight World Championship.
"My opponent is very popular, famous, and he's from the Philippines," Saruta, the defending champion, said. "It's a bit exciting."
Pacio, meanwhile, will be looking to reclaim the title after losing it to Saruta back in January.
"I'm very excited again to compete in front of my hometown, sa harap niyo, namo-motivate ako na mag-compete again, kasi alam ko na there's a big country behind me.
Also on the card, Team Lakay featherweight Edward "The Ferocious" Kelly meets Sung Jong Lee of South Korea, while Eric "The Natural" Kelly meets Kwon Won Il of South Korea.
