Team Lakay featherweight Edward "The Ferocious" Kelly couldn't help but feel regret for some of the missed opportunities at becoming a legitimate world title contender in ONE Championship's featherweight division.
The 35-year old Baguio City native returns to action at ONE: Roots of Honor on Friday, April 12th at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City against South Korea's Sung Jong Lee.
Headlining ONE's second trip to Manila for 2019 is a featherweight world title bout between reigning and defending champion Martin Nguyen and Narantungalag Jadambaa.
Jadambaa's path to the world title brought him face-to-face with Kelly back in 2018, with the Mongolian veteran stopping the Pinoy striker in the second round.
Had Kelly been able to get past Jadambaa, he could easily have been the one challenging Nguyen for the title, Friday night.
After losing two of his last three bouts, Kelly is now out to prove that he still has what it takes to be a top contender in the featherweight division.
"Andito pa naman ako, and gusto ko i-prove na andito pa ako, and willing ako na umakyat ulit, pipilitin na mag-tuloy-tuloy yung panalo para makakuha ng title shot."
Kelly also shared that he added a new wrinkle to his training regimen and hopes to be able to show it off come fight night.
"Yun yung pinag-handaan ko, kasi in my last fights, parang andun ako physically, I will train, pero ang napansin ko is yung mental training.
