“This is another opportunity for us. We know what Alvarez did out West, he’s tested and he’s won multiple World Titles in two big promotions,” - Mark Sangiao
Eduard "Landslide" Folayang, the face of Philippine martial arts, has a huge opportunity to prove something big in his next bout.
Set to face Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez, this is the perfect opportunity for Folayang to prove that he is truly world class - according to his head coach Mark Sangiao.
The former ONE Lightweight World Champion is set to lock horns with one of the biggest names in the division at ONE: DAWN OF HEROES on 2 August at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.
“This is another opportunity for us. We know what Alvarez did out West, he’s tested and he’s won multiple World Titles in two big promotions,” said Sangiao.
“This is where Eduard will prove that he’s truly world-class. In case he beats Alvarez, it’s a big fish for him,” he added. “It will also show how far we’ve come in mixed martial arts. This will only show that Filipinos can compete anywhere against anyone in the world.”
For Sangiao, this match is truly logical cause it pits the best of both worlds - with Alvarez ruling the west for the longest time while Folayang is making a name for himself in Asia.
Knowing the challenge that is in front of them, Sangiao is working double-time to make sure Folayang is in the best shape of his life the moment the Circle door closes on August.
“We’ve seen how Alvarez fights, and we know how Eduard fights. We’ll really prepare for this. This is going to be a great fight, it’s gonna be a war,” Sangiao shared.
“We’ll work on his striking more. I know they’ll go toe to toe. We’ll also work on Eduard’s conditioning.”
Refusing to make a prediction, Sangiao said that fans just better wait for the outcome on August - but he assures them that Folayang will come in prepared and that they’ll do everything to get the victory in Manila.
“It’s happened before and I don’t want to make a prediction now but the goal has always been to win,” said Sangiao. “All I can say is that we’ll be ready on August.”
