ONE: Century is shaping up to be another massive card
ONE Championship has announced a blockbuster card for their 100th event this coming October 13th in Tokyo, Japan, featuring two Filipino stars challenging for World Championships.
As announced by ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong on his Facebook page, ONE: Century will feature a loaded fight card with a multitude of world title bouts.
As already announced months ago, reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon "The Truth" Vera of the Philippines will be making his way down to the light heavyweight division to challenge two-division titleholder and reigning ONE Light Heavyweight World Champion Aung La N Sang of Myanmar.
Vera's plans to go down and attempt to become a two-division titleholder has long been made known, but it was at ONE: A New Era, also in Tokyo back in March, that Vera made the official challenge.
The other Filipino looking to bring home a world title will be former ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin "The Silencer" Belingon, who meets reigning champion Bibiano Fernandes for a fourth time.
Belingon and Fernandes split their first two matchups, while the third one ended in controversy after Belingon found himself getting disqualified because of illegal strikes to the back of the head. The DQ loss automatically gave Fernandes his second run as ONE Bantamweight World Champion.
Sityodtong announced afterwards that the illegal strikes were indeed unintended, and the two will meet in an immediate rematch.
Aside from these two massive matchups, Singaporean star Angela "Unstoppable" Lee defend her ONE Women's Atomweight World Championship against reigning ONE Women's Strawweight World Champion "The Panda" Xiong Jing Nan of China in a highly-anticipated rematch.
Lee and Xiong first crossed paths in Japan back in March, with the former challenging for the latter's belt. After four rounds of domination, Lee found herself gassed out, and Xiong took advantage to score a fifth-round TKO win and retain her title while handing the previously-undefeated Lee her first career loss. This time around, it will be Xiong who will head down to Lee's kingdom and try to become a two-division champion herself.
Also on the card, ONE World Grand Prix Champions will be crowned in the Featherweight Kickboxing Grand Prix Finals, the Lightweight Grand Prix Finals, and the Flyweight Grand Prix Finals.
Expect more big matches to be added to the already-stacked card in the coming weeks.
