Edward Kelly Eyes Submission Win Against Xie Bin
“I hope to showcase my submission skills because I know that I have it,” - Edward Kelly

Edward "The Ferocious" Kelly is notorious for his devastating knockout power, but he’s looking to shake things up in his next bout.

The hard-hitting featherweight is scheduled to lock horns with China's Xie "The Stalker" Bin on the undercard of ONE: DAWN OF HEROES on 2 August which is set to take place at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.

Coming off a second-round technical knockout victory over Sung Jong Lee of South Korea at ONE: ROOTS OF HONOR last April, "The Ferocious" now aims to end his next contest by way of submission.

“I hope to showcase my submission skills because I know that I have it,” Kelly stated.

“I just lack the opportunities to show those skills so now it’s all about finding ways to set it up,” he added. “We’re working on that and I hope that it takes effect on August 2.”

Getting a submission win over Xie would, however, would be easier said than done.

Xie is currently on a six-bout winning steak, with four of those coming by submission.

In the event that Kelly struggles to get things going in the grappling department, the 35-year old said that he won’t be forcing it.

At the end of the day, the victory is what’s important for Kelly - how he does it is just secondary.

“I will also maximize my striking because it’s always been there,” said Kelly.

“But I feel like I can keep up with him on the ground. I think I just need to add more things on my arsenal, mix my techniques on the ground with attacks and defense.”

Kelly will be the first of four martial artists from Team Lakay that is slated to grace the Circle that evening. He knows that his result will set the tone for his teammates, and he hopes to kick off their night on the right note.

“We hope to go 4-0 that night,” said Kelly. “If I start off well, then definitely everyone will be encouraged in the next matches.”
