Honorio Banario gets a new opponent for ONE: Dawn of Heroes in Manila this August
After being displaced from his originally-scheduled ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix semifinal bout, former ONE Featherweight World Champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario will still be competing at ONE: Dawn of Heroes in Manila after all.
The Team Lakay veteran was originally slated to fill in for the injured Lowen Tynanes and face Timofey Nastyukhin on ONE’s massive card in Manila this August 2nd, but an injury to Nastytukhin shook everything up.
Now, the highly-anticipated lightweight bout between former two-time ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang and former UFC and Bellator Lightweight World Champion Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez will serve as the new ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix semifinal bout, with the winner advancing to meet Turkey’s Dagi Arslanaliev in the Finals at ONE: Century in Tokyo, Japan this October.
Banario, meanwhile, will now face South Korean up-and-comer Dae Sung Park in the preliminary card.
A product of Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series, Park is undefeated in ONE so far, with wins over Trestle Tan and Kimihiro Ito (twice, including his ONE Warrior Series bout). Against Banario, Park gets a definite step up in competition.
Banario, meanwhile, is 1-2 in his last three outings following a five-fight winning streak. The inaugural ONE Featherweight king is coming off a TKO loss to Tynanes in Manila back in January.
