All-Filipino ONE card in Manila? Brandon Vera is all for it
“One evening, like have all of our, ating mga kababayan na superstars here on the same card, I would like to be on that one,” - Brandon Vera

At ONE: Dawn of Heroes in Manila this coming August 2nd, the Philippines will be well-represented with five Filipino warriors taking to the ring at fight night.

Leading the Pinoy contingent will be two-time ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, who meets American MMA star Eddie Alvarez in a highly-important ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix semi-final bout

Also in a semifinal bout, this time in the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix is Filipino flyweight contender and Folayang’s Team Lakay teammate Danny “The King” Kingad, who meets Fil-Australian Reece McLaren.

Joining Folayang and Kingad on the card will be their Team Lakay brothers in Geje Eustaquio, Honorio Banario, and Edward Kelly.

One Filipino star that hasn’t seen action since late last year however, is reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera

The Filipino-American star is coming off a dominant title defense over Mauro Cerilli at ONE: Conquest of Champions in Manila back in November of 2018.

Vera has had some prior commitments outside the cage to tend to, but could have easily headlined part of any of this year’s big cards so far if schedules permitted it.

Vera instead will now likely headline ONE’s biggest card this year this coming October in Tokyo, Japan, where he will be dropping down to light heavyweight to challenge reigning titleholder Aung La N Sang of Myanmar for the strap.

With the August 2nd card in Manila possibly being ONE’s biggest card in the country ever, Vera is nothing but excited to witness the massive night of fights, but isn’t necessarily feeling left out because he won’t be competing on it.

“The reason why I’m not sad that I’m not on the Manila event is that mayroon nang next,” Vera told ABS-CBN Sports, referring to his title bout against the light heavyweight champion at ONE’s 100th event. “Mayroon nang parating. Focused na ako. I don’t have time to be sorry.”

Something that Vera would really like to be part of however, is an All-Filipino ONE Championship card in Manila.

Imagine the best Filipino martial artists competing on one event. Vera is all for it.

“We were talking about it in the back, we would really like to get all of us, ating mga…I wanna say teammates even though we’re not on the same, but…my brothers, mga kapatid ko, Chatri [Sityodtong] was saying that it would be really nice if all of us could compete on the same card,” Vera shared.

With the amount of talent in the Philippines, and with the country being one of the biggest martial arts fanbases in the world, the idea of a Pinoy-filled ONE card isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

Imagine having Pinoy stars like Vera, Folayang, Kevin Belingon, Joshua Pacio, Eustaquio, Banario, Edward Kelly, Gina Iniong, Kingad, Rene Catalan, Ryan Jakiri, Ramon Gonzales, and others, all on the same card?

“One evening, like have all of our, ating mga kababayan na superstars here on the same card, I would like to be on that one,” Vera added.
