American mixed martial arts star Eddie "The Underground King" Alvarez captured his first win under the ONE Championship banner with a spectacular submission victory over former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard "Landslide" Folayng at ONE: Dawn of Heroes, Friday evening at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Folayang appeared to be on track to get the win early in the round after dropping Alvarez with a massive leg kick.
The Filipino MMA hero pounced on Alvarez, looking for the win, but the American vet survived the onslaught and was able to reverse the position.
Alvarez quickly took Folayang's back and then locked in a rear naked choke, forcing Folayang to tap out.
The stoppage came in at the 2:16 mark.
Alvarez records his first win since 2017 and advances into the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix Finals. He faces Turkish knockout artist Saygid "Dagi" Guseyn Arslanaliev at ONE: Century in Tokyo, Japan this coming October.
Folayang, meanwhile, absorbs his second-straight loss.
