Danny Kingad rallies back to defeat Reece McLaren via Split Decision and advance into the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix Finals
Filipino flyweight Danny “The King” Kingad arrested Team Lakay’s losing skid and booked his ticket to the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix with a Split Decision win over Australian Reece “Lightning” McLaren at ONE: Dawn of Heroes, Friday evening at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Kingad looked to get his striking off early, but McLaren had other plans as he immediately brought the action to the ground and quickly moved into full mount. The Pinoy managed to escape and tried to go for an armbar of his own, but slipped out and again found himself under McLaren’s control.
The Australian grappler took Kingad’s back and looked to end the bout with a rear-naked choke, but the Pinoy was able to power out and end the round on his feet.
More of the same from McLaren in the second round, as he repeatedly grounded Kingad and looked for more submission attempts.
Kingad rallied back in the final round as he landed multiple takedowns of his own and was able to capitalize on a fatigued McLaren and land some solid ground and pound to end the bout on a strong note.
After three rounds of action, Kingad was able to walk away with the split decision win.
Kingad improves to 13-1 in his career.
