Martial artists from the renowned Team Lakay now enjoy a modern training facility. They opened its new headquarters last Wednesday, 21 August in Pico, La Trinidad.

The new facility houses better training equipment, a much bigger space for grappling, and a cage that they never before had.

“It’s bigger and it’s much more complete. Our athletes are much more comfortable,” Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao said.

“It has a cage now, and there’s much bigger space for us to spar. There’s no reason for us now to come in unprepared.”

The new gym will also serve as Team Lakay’s new headquarters for training. Sangiao said they planned the layout of the structure in January, but construction did not start until April.

“We just planned it this year, and four months ago we started working on it. It opened on 21 August because it was a holiday,” Sangiao shared.

“It will be the new headquarters of Team Lakay. We’re all excited but it got a bit delayed because of the bad weather.”

Sangiao has been a busy man as of late.

Besides keeping a close eye on the training of Danny "The King" Kingad and former ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin "The Silencer" Belingon for their bouts at ONE: CENTURY on 13 October in Tokyo, he also made a trip to Bangkok, Thailand to shop for new training gear and seek sponsorship for his athletes.

“I went to Bangkok to shop for new items. I bought gloves, pads, equipment for our athletes,” Sangiao said.

“We also looked for possible sponsorship for the equipment of the boys.”

A new gym, quality training gear, and sponsorship - Sangiao wants everything they need to make the life of his athletes easier in the future.

“We’re fixing this so our athletes won’t have to worry about this in the future.”
