Honorio Banario finally gets shot at Shinya Aoki
“He’s still on the top of his game and his skills never change. I’m a fan of how he was able to stay on top ever since he was younger.” - Honorio Banario
For years, Honorio "The Rock" Banario has been itching to test his mettle against Japanese submission wizard Shinya "Tobikan Judan" Aoki.

The Baguio City native always dreamed of standing across the Circle with Aoki ever since “The Rock” won the inaugural ONE Featherweight World Title by technical knockout against Eric "The Natural" Kelly at ONE: RETURN OF WARRIORS in February 2013.

It was that same year that Aoki defeated Kotetsu "No Face" Boku by second-round submission at ONE: KINGS AND CONQUERORS to become the ONE Lightweight World Champion.

Six years later, the Team Lakay representative will finally know what it is like to lock horns with Aoki. The two tangle at ONE: CENTURY on 13 October at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.

"He is a legend," Banario said. “He’s still on the top of his game and his skills never change. I’m a fan of how he was able to stay on top ever since he was younger.”

Banario was surprised at first when he got the news because he comes off back-to-back loses against Lowen Tynanes at ONE: HERO’S ASCENT last January and "Crazy Dog" Dae Sung Park at ONE: DAWN OF HEROES this past month.

Aoki, meanwhile, also lost in his previous outing when he dropped the ONE Lightweight World Title to Christian "The Warrior" Lee at ONE: ENTER THE DRAGON last May.

With the golden ticket in the palm of his hands, he vows to cash it in.

“At first I was shocked because my losses are piling up one after the other, yet they gave me Aoki - so I took it. This is an opportunity to bounce back and face a legend of this sport.” Banario said.

“If I win, maybe I’ll shoot back up the rankings. I’ll definitely prepare for this and test my skills with Aoki.”

For Banario, it is all about confidence and knowing that anything can happen inside the Circle.

“For me it can really go either way,” Banario said.

“We all know the level that he’s on, but I believe that we can pull it off if we execute our game plan. I see that he sometimes looses focus when he gets hit, so if we manage to execute our game plan, then we’ll have a chance.”
