After having shared the cage three times before, it’s safe to say that Team Lakay’s Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon and reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes know each other very, very well.
The two stars are set to clash for a fourth time for the title when ONE Championship heads back to Tokyo, Japan for their 100th event, ONE: CENTURY on Sunday, October 13th at the historic Ryogoku Kokugikan sumo hall.
Belingon is hoping to regain the title after he was disqualified for inadvertent strikes to the back of Fernandes’ head during their most recent matchup at ONE: A New Era, also in Tokyo, back in March, and Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao believes that his bantamweight star is nothing short of determined and motivated to become a two-time world champion.
Si Bibiano, gusto manalo, pero tayo gustong-gusto natin manalo, and sama this time maging fair yung laban,” said Sangiao.
With all that history between Belingon and Fernandes, Sangiao believes that they pretty much have an idea of the Brazilian veteran’s tendencies inside the cage. Belingon on the other hand, Sangiao says, still has a lot of tricks up his sleeve.
The 39-year old Fernandes will be coming into fight night with 15 years of experience and 27 professional contests to his name, and with all that mileage on the longest-ever reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion, Sangiao believes that he is beginning to show signs of slowing down.
The Belingon-Fernandes rivalry has easily been one of ONE’s most celebrated, with the two making up the Singapore-based promotion’s first tetralogy. Belingon took the first encounter back in 2016 with a first-round submission win, and Belingon went on to even the score in the rematch back in 2018.
This fourth encounter, Sangiao believes, will finally prove just who is the rightful ONE Bantamweight king.
Belingon and Fernandes will be the co-main event of ONE: Century’s PM card.
