ONE strawweight talent Lito "Thunder Kid" Adiwang has to tweak his usual training regimen to prepare for his debut in The Home Of Martial Arts.
The explosive striker from the mountains of Baguio adjusts his training not for his opponent, but because he competes in the morning for the first time in his professional mixed martial arts career.
"That’s one of the adjustments we’re making. We spar in the morning and we moved training to an earlier time so we can adapt,” Adiwang shared.
Adjusting the time he trains is just the start for the young strawweight. Other than his body clock, Adiwang has to acclimate himself for the cooler weather that awaits him in "The Land of the Rising Sun.”
He hopes being in Baguio City – one of the colder places in the Philippines – will help him adjust to the climate change.
“We also try to adapt as fast we can to the weather. Here in Baguio it’s been raining every day and it’s been cold as well. We hope it won’t be a major adjustment,” Adiwang shared.
“I think it’s colder there. We’ll make up for it with hard training because we’re preparing at high altitude – that’s our advantage.”
While the 26-year-old conceded that time and climate are indeed a factor in his upcoming bout, he shrugs it off and states that it is a hurdle he can overcome.
The Team Lakay athlete’s desire to leave an impression in his debut is what matters more.
“It’s all about staying focused, adapting, and adjusting,” Adiwang said. “You can expect nothing but the best from me.”
How will Adiwang adjust in his much-awaited main roster debut? Find out on 13 October at ONE: CENTURY in Tokyo, Japan.
