Sangiao sees Lito Adiwang being challenged at ONE: CENTURY
“This is a good debut for Lito against a top fighter. We saw how Senzo is. He might have lost [to Danny Kingad] but we could see that he is really good,” - Mark Sangiao

Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao is happy that Lito "Thunder Kid" Adiwang will make his debut against a top athlete like Senzo Ikeda

Adiwang and Ikeda lock horns at ONE: CENTURY PART I on 13 October at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan, and the soft-spoken Mark Sangiao believes his student is up for a tough night.

“This is a good debut for Lito against a top fighter. We saw how Senzo is. He might have lost [to Danny Kingad] but we could see that he is really good,” Sangiao said.

“You’ll see that he’s definitely a good striker. He doesn’t stop. I think Lito will be tested, especially since Senzo will be moving down.”

Ikeda, a former unbeaten professional boxer, made his debut at The Home of Martial Arts at ONE: A NEW ERA last March where he suffered a unanimous decision loss at the hands of Adiwang's teammate Danny "The King" Kingad.

Adiwang, on the other hand, made a name for himself in Rich Franklin's ONE WARRIOR SERIES where he won three straight bouts and earned a lucrative six-figure ONE Championship contract.

Now in the big leagues against a world-class opponent, Sangiao is convinced “Thunder Kid” will carry over the same fire he showed in ONE’s development league.

"It's going to be a fun fight. Who knows, we might see a knockout here,” Sangiao said. “Lito doesn’t back down. It all boils down to preparation now, considering these two are warriors.”

But the Baguio City coach warned that beating Ikeda will not be a walk in the park. After all, he is the same guy who went the distance against Kingad.

“He lasted against Danny, even though he ate a lot of shots in that fight. He’s really tough and that’s why Lito needs to come in really prepared.”

If the Team Lakay athlete passes this test, Sangiao is confident that the sky is the limit for the 26-year-old.

“I think it will be a sign of good things to come,” Sangiao said. “It goes to show that he’s a superstar in the making.”
