A successful night for Team Lakay at the historic ONE: CENTURY could help ease the pain for Jerry "Bokodian Warrior" Olsim, who suffered his first defeat as a professional mixed martial artist on Saturday, 5 October.

The Filipino warrior went toe-to-toe with Japan's Ryoji Kudo at Rich Franklin's ONE WARRIOR SERIES 8 in Tokyo, Japan, but he fell short by way of unanimous decision, prolonging his long-awaited promotion to the main roster.

While losing is by no means fun, the 24-year-old is already anticipating a grand night this coming Sunday as his squad competes at ONE: CENTURY.

Four of Olsim's teammates – Kevin "The Silencer” Belingon, Danny "The King" Kingad, Honorio "The Rock" Banario, and Lito "Thunder Kid" Adiwang – compete in ONE Championship's historic two-show event in The Land Of The Rising Sun.

“I really have no reason to be down because I learned a lot against Kudo, but I feel like all the disappointment will dissipate if the team gets good results next Sunday,” Olsim said.

Kudo proved too much to handle for "Bokodian Warrior" during their three-round clash. Tha Japanese athlete overwhelmed Olsim by mixing up his striking and grappling for fifteen minutes.

The Japanese athlete's style made Olsim passive at times, which he regrets as he paid dearly for it that evening.

“I know Kudo is a fantastic athlete, but I didn’t expect his footwork to be that good. His stand-up game is great as well and I was caught off guard with his strength,” Olsim said.

“To be honest, there are a lot of regrets in my performance. I should have added more pressure in my attack,” he added. “But I accept the fact that there will be setbacks. I realized the things that I need to work on more.”

The Bokod, Benguet native is confident he can bounce back in the future, and he expects his teammates to pick up the slack for him on Sunday.

“I know it’s not my time to enter the main roster yet, but I believe that I will be there in time,” Olsim said.

But for now, the Team Lakay representative plans to support his teammates who go to war this weekend.

“I lost, but I learned a lot. Now it’s time for me to come out and support my brothers who will be competing for our country next week.”
