Brandon Vera isn’t just fighting for himself at ONE: Century
"I need to make everyone proud. Not just Mom and Dad, but yung ating bansa," - Brandon Vera

TOKYO, JAPAN - Reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera will be stepping into the Circle against the biggest challenge he’s ever faced in the form of two-division world champion Aung La N Sang at ONE: Century this coming Sunday, October 13th at the Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Hall here.

For the first time in his ONE career, Vera will be jumping down to a lighter weight class to challenge Aung La for the ONE Light Heavyweight World Championship.

For the Filipino-American star, who also hopes to realize a dream of becoming a two-division world champion himself, this upcoming champion-versus-champion matchup has driven him to new heights in terms of preparation.

“I don’t know how ready I am,” Vera told the Filipino reporters during Friday’s media availability session. “Sa totoo lang, I’ve never been able to do the things that I’ve done in this camp, done as much as I’ve ever done in this camp. I’ve never only taken five days off, I’ve never meal-prepped this hard, I’ve never scoured all parts of the globe for training partners, flying people in, flying people out,”

Vera continued that his training camp was split between back home in the Philippines, in the United States, and in Guam.

“Hindi ako naka-pahinga, kahit yung utak ko, I don’t know why. I just know na super importante ito para sa akin, sa aming lahat.”

Vera has openly talked about being more motivated than ever for this title bout, and he further explains that this is more than just about him becoming a champ champ, so to speak.

“Hindi lang sa aming lahat, sa ating bansa. This is history, I can make history.”

Vera believes that anyone, when presented with the opportunity to realize a lifelong dream, would be willing to lay it all on the line to achieve that dream, and the same goes for him.

“Sa ating mga kababayan, out of everyone in the Philippines, if you were to give them their dream, ilagay mo sa harap nila, and alam nila na there’s a 50-50 chance, guaranteed, basta mag-trabaho sila, mag-ayos sila, gawin nila lahat ng makakaya nila, everything that they need to do, and there’s a 50-50 chance that they can realize their dream, sino sa atin ang hindi mag-aaccept nun? Who wouldn’t try to kill themselves for this dream, this goal?”

For Vera, becoming the light heavyweight king goes more than just achieving something for himself.

“Yun lang ang iniisip ko, and I think about this every day, I think about this all the time, I need to make everyone proud. Not just Mom and Dad, but yung ating bansa, Team Lakay, myself, my wife, my family," Vera expressed, making special mention of his fellow Filipinos fighting on Sunday.

For the reigning heavyweight king, failure isn’t an option. “The Truth” believes that if you set your mind to something and work hard at it, anything is achievable.

“Kaya, kaya talaga, don’t let your dreams die. I don’t care how old you are, how young you are, kahit anong hirap mo, kung saang klase ka galing, kung gusto mo talaga, may magagawa kang paraan at maaabot mo yung mga pangarap mo. It’s bigger than me. I guess that’s why it’s so easy to train, it’s bigger than me.”

“That’s why it’s so important. Hindi lang ako ‘to,” he added.

Vera faces Aung La in the main event of ONE: Century Part II.
