Eduard "Landslide" Folayang ended 2018 with the ONE Lightweight World Title buckled around his waist.
But in 2019, the man touted as the face of Philippine mixed martial arts finds himself in the middle of a two-match dry spell that started in March when he lost the ONE Lightweight World Title to Shinya "Tobikan Judan" Aoki at ONE: A NEW ERA.
Despite the setbacks, Folayang always bounces back. On 8 November, he gets the chance to bounce back when he takes on Mongolia's Amarsanaa Tsogookhuu at ONE: MASTERS OF FATE at the Mall Of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.
“This is very crucial because I’m coming off back-to-back losses, right? I’ve never lost three straight and I want to avoid that,” Folayang said.
“I will give my maximum effort to snatch that victory this time. It’s important to end the year with a good result, so I’ll have a good mindset heading to 2020.”
With the ONE Lightweight World Title still within reach, the Baguio City native sees his upcoming bout as a chance to reestablish himself.
"This is a reset for me. I really need a win to get back. That’s the first step for me,” Folayang said.
“We lost two fights, so this is the first step. This is very important. As much as possible, I’ll do my best and send a message that I am not that old yet.”
Folayang is one of the most successful Filipinos in ONE Championship because he can overcome insurmountable odds, and the 35-year-old plans to stun fans once again.
“My aim is to win, no less. To show that I still have plenty of potential in me,” Folayang said.
"There's still something to show. This fight is for a fresh start. That’s what I want to put out in this match.”
