Geje "Gravity" Eustaquio vows to end the year with a win, and to do that, he looks to his older stablemate for inspiration.
Ahead of his upcoming match with Toni "Dynamite" Tauru at ONE: MASTERS OF FATE on 8 November at the Mall Of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines, Eustaquio draws inspiration from teammate Eduard "Landslide" Folayang.
Just like Folayang – a former ONE Lightweight World Champion, Eustaquio has gone through challenges in his storied career, but he never stopped chasing his dreams.
“For me, I’m truly inspired by the story of kuya Eduard’s career, especially with how he got his belt on another run,” the 30-year-old said.
“Look at him now. He’s still pursuing, he really wants it for the third time.”
“Gravity” has experienced the same ups and downs, suffering his first stoppage loss by the hands of Yuya "Little Piranha" Wakamatsu at ONE: DAWN OF HEROES in August when he was knocked out at the 1:59 mark of round one.
Now he is bent on building momentum.
“What’s important is to get back in the winning circle, especially since this is the final competition for 2019,” Eustaquio said.
Brimming with confidence against a man who defeated him in the past, Eustaquio sees some flaws in the Finnish grappling specialist.
“I’m in a much more favorable position because way back in 2016, we fought in the bantamweight division, this time, it’s in the flyweight division.”
“Based on what I watched the last time, he’s still getting used to this division. His strength and power has suffered,” the Filipino added.
But only time will tell if the drop in weight will affect Tauru and give Eustaquio the win he seeks at the close of 2019.
“If it’s not my time [to win another World Title] I should keep winning. That’s the goal as of now – to keep winning. We want to end the year on a positive note.”
