After two years of competing overseas, Filipino strawweight Robin “The Ilonggo” Catalan will finally be competing back on home soil.

The Pinoy striker meets Cuban Olympic wrestler Gustavo “El Gladiador” Balart in the preliminary card of ONE: Masters of Fate this coming Friday, November 8th at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

“Siyempre excited na excited ako dahil lalaban ulit ako dito sa hometown natin, tapos magkasama pa kami ng kuya ko sa lineup,” he shared with ABS-CBN Sports.

As Robin stated, adding to his excitement is the fact that he’ll be competing alongside his kuya Rene, who will be challenging for the ONE Strawweight World Championship against titleholder and fellow Pinoy star Joshua “The Passion” Pacio in the main event.

As Rene’s main training partner over at the Catalan Fighting Systems gym, Robin has been doing his part in helping his kuya prepare for the biggest fight of his life.

“Sabay talaga kami nag-ttraining.

Winning the title, Robin says, is just as important for the rest of the CFS team as it is for their fearless leader.

“Siyempre, malaking bagay yan dahil yun yung pinapangarap niya na title shot, first title shot niya sa ONE,” he stated.

As for himself, Robin is eager to get back on track after coming up short in his last outing, a submission loss to Thailand’s Pongsiri Mitsatit.

To get back on track, Robin shared that he’s looking to his kuya and his family for an added push.

Standing in front of Robin will be a fan favorite in Balart’ who’s looking to record his first win under the ONE Championship banner. The Cuban may be diminutive in size, but Robin isn’t taking “El Gladiador” lightly.
