ONE Championship: Even if he becomes champion, Rene Catalan will remain ‘D’ Challenger’

'D' Challenger' is more than a moniker for Rene Catalan
"'D'Challenger' means, since how many times na nag-world champion ako, sabi ko sa sarili ko, I'm still a challenger. I'm not a champion, because marami pa akong gustong marating sa buhay, even though na mag-10 times na world champion ako, gusto ko pa din maging challenger parati." At ONE: Masters of Fate this coming Friday, November 8th at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, veteran Filipino martial artist Rene “D’ Challenger’ Catalan has a chance to take home his first world championship in mixed martial arts when he challenges reigning titleholder and fellow Filipino Joshua “The Passion” Pacio of Team Lakay.

Fittingly enough, ‘D’ Challenger’ will finally be challenging for a world championship, and even if he does realize his dream of becoming a world champion, Catalan says that he will continue to call himself ‘D’ Challenger’.

For Catalan it’s more than just moniker, but rather it’s a mindset and a form of motivation.

“'D'Challenger' means, since how many times na nag-world champion ako, sabi ko sa sarili ko, I'm still a challenger,” he explained. “I'm not a champion, because marami pa akong gustong marating sa buhay, even though na mag-10 times na world champion ako, gusto ko pa din maging challenger parati.”

Being a challenger, Catalan adds, is also a reminder to remain humble, no matter how far he has come in his career.

“Challenger means, para sa akin, always be humble and not be boastful," he concluded.
