ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio seemingly has the odds in his favor heading into his title defense against fellow Filipino Rene ‘D’ Challenger’ Catalan at ONE: Masters of Fate this Friday, November 8th at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Philippines.

Apart from being the favorite and the more experienced mixed martial artist, Pacio has the venue advantage, so to speak. Pacio is undefeated when competing at home. 5-0 to be exact.

The Mall of Asia Arena has been Pacio’s house of highlights. From his spinning backfist win over Roy Doliguez, to the now legendary Passion Lock submission over Pongsiri Mitsatit, to his spectacular head kick-KO victory over Yosuke Saruta to recapture the ONE Strawweight World Championship, all of those happened on home soil.

Friday night, Pacio has the opportunity to add yet another highlight inside the MoA Arena: his first successful world title defense.

“Siyempre napaka-importante nito, kasi yung unang title defense ko, nadismaya ako. Hindi lang ako, alam ko buong team and buong Pilipinas, so ngayon, I'm 100% focused and confident,” Pacio told ABS-CBN Sports. “Siyempre yun yung importante, yung focused talaga, so I'm confident na mananalo ako this Friday.”

The MoA crowd won’t be 100% behind Pacio this time around however, as he will be facing a compatriot in Catalan. The young champion understands this but remains fully intent on keeping his undefeated record in Manila intact.

“Napaka-saya kasi wala pa akong talo sa hometown natin, and para sa akin isang motivation din yun, yung winning streak ko dito sa Pilipinas, and of course, this coming Friday, alam ko mahahati yung fans, pero I'm more focused on the fight and how to get the win.”
