Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly and Ramon “The Bicolano” Gonzales look to barge into Beijing and take home victories against two Chinese hometown heroes at ONE: AGE OF DRAGONS on 16 November at the Cadillac Arena in China.
Kelly battles Tang Kai in a clash between two of the hardest hitting featherweights, and Gonzales battles “Wolf Of The Grasslands” Hexigetu in a strawweight clash that was originally set for ONE: DREAMS OF GOLD.
Despite playing the role as the away team this Saturday, Gonzales is confident he can get his fourth consecutive win.
“Hometown advantage won’t really play a role in our match because I trained and I worked hard for this,” Gonzales said.
“I know that wherever they take me and wherever I fight, I will be bringing the support of all the Filipinos who believe in me. Their silent cheers are inside my heart and that is more than enough for me.”
Kelly, on the other hand, is going through an inconsistent year, amassing a 1-2 record in 2019.
“I really want to maximize this opportunity because my previous bout was disappointing. I know that Tang Kai is strong and determined but I am confident that I will get the win in this match.”
The 35-year-old Team Lakay standout will bank on his experience in big matches when he battles the unstoppable Chinese striker.
In his career, Kelly has already faced two World Champions, ONE Lightweight World Champion Christian “The Warrior” Lee and former ONE Featherweight World Champion Narantungalag Jadambaa.
“I have fought the best and the strongest strikers in the featherweight division, so facing another strong opponent is not a problem for me,” Kelly said.
“I believe that my experience will be a huge factor in our match in Beijing.”
While Kelly will bank on experience, Gonzales’ edge is something more abstract. He gets his boost from the unending support of his peers and family as he promises not to disappoint them.
“This is for everyone who has always believed in me. I want to show that I am working hard and that I won’t be wasting their support.”
