Jeremy “The Jaguar” Miado is back to winning ways – and it took him months of preparation to get it.
Miado scored a thunderous first-round flying-knee knockout win over Miao Li Tao at ONE: AGE OF DRAGONS to frustrate the thousands of Chinese fans in attendance at the Cadillac Arena in Beijing last Saturday, 16 November.
The 26-year-old scored the highlight-reel knockout when Miao was shooting for a takedown, driving his knee right into the jaw of his foe as the crowd fell to a stunned silence.
Miado insists the knockout win was not a flash in the pan – it was a result of rigorous game-planning and preparation.
“I watched his previous bouts and I noticed the things that he always does. He will throw some combinations, shoot for a takedown, and dominate on the ground. That’s what I prepared for, countering his attacks,” Miado said.
“I worked particularly on two points of attack – my combinations and the flying knee once he attempted to shoot and that’s exactly what happened. I’m happy I executed it perfectly.”
The motivation came after “The Jaguar” saw his compatriots fall one by one early in the preliminaries.
“I had two countrymen who I know wanted to win bad, but unfortunately they fell to their Chinese opponents. That’s why I told myself I’m gonna win for them and I will raise the Philippine flag high,” Miado said, who improved to 9-4 after the match.
“That was an added motivation for me.”
Ending the year on a brilliant note, “The Jaguar” shared that he is far from reaching his true potential.
“I will work harder in training to get better and stronger,” Miado said.
