Albindo lost by a narrow split decision to “Prince” Toreq in a highly-entertaining striking affair to open the show.
After a fast start, Albindo seemed to fade as the match went on, allowing Toreq to take control of the match and later get the nod from two of the three judges.
“I just want to thank everyone for the support. I’ll be back,” Albindo said on a social media post. “The comeback is always stronger than the setback.”
At least Albindo made it to the final bell. Catalan, on the other hand, struggled heavily against Ji Yeon “Honey Bee” Seo.
The South Korean was as good as advertised after overwhelming the 37-year-old on the ground to take a quick TKO victory in the first round.
But like Albindo, Catalan promises to come back better than before.
“I may not have been able to display my best in [the] fight, but definitely, it’s a big learning experience that inspires and motivates me to keep training harder, so I can be able to bounce back stronger,” Catalan said.
