“There’s no break for Jomary. I even hired a boxing coach to prepare her. I also told Ruel and Robin to help us out in preparation for Jomary,” CFS head coach Rene "The Challenger" Catalan said.
“She will be facing a very good fighter. Since she’s coming off consecutive losses, she really needs this match. Her training has to come gradually.”
Torres was once touted as the Philippines' best-kept secret in women's mixed martial arts. She started her professional career with four impressive wins, but has since lost her last four matches.
Her 40-year-old trainer is pulling out all stops to make sure "The Zamboanginian Fighter" comes in well-equipped, hiring different coaches from nearly all disciplines to cover all bases.
“I assigned different coaches for this. We have a wrestling coach, Muay Thai, wushu, and boxing. When we work on boxing, we focus solely on boxing,” Catalan said.
“We have different routines in wrestling, wushu, and Muay Thai In Muay Thai, I asked Robin (Catalan) to focus on her.”
“She understands that this is how it has to be. During the preparation, no breaks. After the fight, yes, we can rest. But during the preparations, no one’s going home.”
Catalan went on to explain why he is taking no chances with Torres.
“I told her that it’s going to be hard for her given the size and level of her opponent. She went on a streak before but this time, the level of competition in ONE Championship is just so high,” Catalan said.
“Jenny Huang is someone who’s good on the ground but is also willing to exchange punches. But Jomary is still young and we can still push her. Right now, we’re confident wherever this match goes.”
If everything goes according to plan, “The Challenger” is confident of Torres’ chances.
“I guarantee that Jomary will be there with her all throughout the match. She’s motivated to get back to the winning track. We will stop at nothing.”
