Asia-based martial arts powerhouse ONE Championship is coming off another remarkable year in 2019, with a handful of successful partnerships and ventures into new territory, most notable of them were two major events in Japan (ONE: A NEW ERA and ONE: CENTURY).
With the new year underway, ONE Championship is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down, with company chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong announcing that the biggest martial arts organization in the world is looking at at least 50 events for the coming year.
“I am thrilled to announce that ONE Championship will produce a record high 50 events in 2020 (vs. our prior record of 42 events in 2019) across our key properties: ONE Championship, ONE Super Series, ONE Hero Series, ONE Warrior Series, and ONE Esports,” Sityodtong proudly said though his Facebook page.
Prior to the end of 2019, ONE had already announced a stacked preliminary lineup of events for the first half of 2020, with major events making stops in usual locations such as Bangkok, Thailand, Manila, Philippines, Jakarta, Indonesia, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Also included in the preliminary list for the first half of 2020 are events in Chongqing, China, returns to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, Tokyo, Japan, and Seoul, South Korea, as well as a comeback show in Macau, China.
“For the coming year, ONE Championship intends to hold a minimum of 50 events, including those from ONE Championship, ONE Hero Series, ONE Warrior Series, and ONE Esports. More announcements will be coming shortly for the 2020 calendar. In addition, if all goes according to plan, we hope to throw our first events in the United States, India, and Korea in 2020. While nothing is 100% confirmed yet for US and India, serious initial discussions have been underway. Also, with the success of ONE Hero Series China, we will now launch ONE Hero Series Philippines, our local league in the Philippines, in 2020 to widen our search for the next global martial arts superstar.” Sityodtong stated.
Of course, ONE’s events will not just be confined to major shows, but will also feature events from properties such as Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series, ONE Hero Series, which is expected to debut in the Philippines, as well as ONE ESports.
With new major partnerships on board to begin the new year, "The Home of Martial Arts" is looking poised to be a lot stronger on all fronts and produce even more exciting, must-see content across all platforms and properties.
ONE Championship will kick 2020 off with ONE: A NEW TOMORROW this coming Friday, 10 January at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, headlined by a must-see rematch for the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Championship between hometown hero and reigning titleholder Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon and former champion Jonathan “The General” Haggerty of the United Kingdom.
