Brandon Vera puts his ONE Heavyweight World Championship on the line against Arjan Bhullar at ONE Infinity 2 in Manila this May.
The next challenger to Brandon "The Truth" Vera's ONE Heavyweight World Championship has been named.
Just a couple of weeks after it was announced that the Fil-American striker was set to defend his title in Manila on May 29th, ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced that standing opposite Vera would be none other than Indian-Canadian wrestler Arjan "Singh" Bhullar.
The heavyweight clash will likely headline the ONE Infinity 2 card at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The 42-year old Vera (16-8) is undefeated in ONE Championship as a heavyweight, with all of his wins in the Singapore-based promotion coming in just the opening round. Vera TKO'd Igor Subora in his promotional debut before starching Paul Cheng in just 26 seconds to capture the ONE Heavyweight World Championship. He has successfully defended the title twice since, knocking out Hideki Sekine, and most recently, Mauro Cerrilli in just 64 seconds.
The former UFC standout is coming off his first ONE Championship loss however, falling short against Myanmar's Aung La N Sang in his bid for the ONE Light Heavyweight World Championship.
Bhullar, 33, a former Olympian wrestler, is coming off a successful ONE Championship debut back in October, defeating Cerrilli via Unanimous Decision to push his professional record to 10-1. Bhullar's ONE debut comes after an impressive run in the UFC that saw him go 3-1 in four matches.
ONE Infinity 2 in Manila will also see the return of ONE Lightweight World Champion Christian "The Warrior" Lee of Singapore, as he defends his title against the ultra-impressive Italian Iuri Lapicus.
Lee (13-3), 21, is coming off a career year in 2019, one that saw him avenge a loss to Edward Kelly before moving up to lightweight to shock the world and knock out Shinya Aoki for the ONE Lightweight World Championship. He would end the year with a dominant decision win over Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev in the finals of the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix at ONE: Century in Tokyo back in October.
Lapicus, 24, is undefeated in 14 professional fights, including his first two under the ONE Championship banner. In his debut with ONE, Lapicus submitted contender Shannon Wiratchai in the third round. He followed that up with an even quicker submission victory, this time against former ONE Featherweight World Champion Marat Gafurov, choking out the submission specialist in just 67 seconds.
Also announced was an exciting lightweight clash between former UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie "The Underground King" Alvarez of the United States and Turkish knockout artist Saygid "Dagi" Guseyn Arslanaliev.
Sityodtong also revealed that the previously-announced ONE Flyweight World Championship bout between Adriano Moraes and Demetrious Johnson has been moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, and will headline ONE Infinty 1. Also on that card will be ONE Middleweight World Champion Aung La N Sang defending his title against former champion Vitaly Bigdash.
