Mark “Tyson” Fairtex Abelardo has licked his wounds after an earlier setback and is ready to rebound in the ONE Championship Circle.
Abelardo takes on newcomer Fabricio “Wonderboy” Andrade in a 67-kilogram catchweight contest at ONE: NO SURRENDER on Friday, 31 July, in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 28-year-old is fresh off a loss against “Pretty Boy” Troy Worthen at ONE: KING OF THE JUNGLE in February, where he was dominated from start to finish.
Abelardo is ready to move forward and re-start his journey to the top.
“It’s amazing to be back to somewhat normal, especially with competing,” Abelardo said. “[That loss] was a small bump in the journey. [If] you can’t win them, you just got to get better, prove yourself, and put on a better performance in my next fight, so that’s what I want to do.”
Abelardo had no answers for Worthen’s world-class wrestling that night, but he is confident he has learned things from the match that he can use against his next opponent.
It may help him pull off the win over Andrade, who is dangerous on his feet but lacks the experience that Abelardo brings to the ring.
“He’s a high-level striker, champion caliber, but I don’t think he’s on my level overall,” he said.
“It’s MMA, so I’m going to be looking to mix it up whether it’s standing or on the ground.”
