Fireworks, fainting open 2017 Palarong Pambansa
NIGHT AND DAY. The 2017 Palarong Pambansa is officially underway.
SAN JOSE, ANTIQUE – It was a little later than usual, but the 2017 Palarong Pambansa was formally underway last Sunday.
“I now declare the Palarong Pambansa open,” Pres. Rodrigo Duterte exclaimed to end his stint on the stage of the Biniyaran Sports Complex.
The task seemingly skipped the mind of the Philippine leader as he wound up his speech and then stood for photo opportunities yet to declare the games open.
Still, Duterte fulfilled his task of officially opening this year’s national meet to applause.
Not long after the president had left, a beautiful fireworks display then wrapped up the opening ceremonies.
The aerial spectacle brought about much-needed brightness to a day that also saw several instances of athletes as well as performers needing medical attention.
According to the estimate of the on-ground medical team, around 50 people fainted mostly due to dehydration.
The delegates paraded from the provincial capitol to nearby Biniyaran Sports Complex starting at 1:00 PM.
The opening ceremonies were then held from then until 6:00 PM.
