PBA: Move from Ginebra to Magnolia just part of the job for Vernon Macklin

Vernon Macklin is now wearing the Magnolia blue rather than the Ginebra red he had on him five years ago
In 2013, Vernon Macklin was reppin’ Ginebra.
Five years later, the 6-foot-10 American has crossed over to the other side of the Manila Clasico rivalry.
Macklin made his PBA return on Sunday at the MOA Arena, playing for Magnolia up against Phoenix.
He put up a 25-point, 17-rebound double-double in his first game back in the Philippines, but he and his team fell victim to a come-from-behind win by the Fuel Masters.
For the now 31-year-old, he can only get better. “Tough loss. I think I need to get into better shape to help my team down the stretch,” he said.
That is especially true as, in his eyes, the Filipinos’ talent level is way higher than where it was five years ago. “I’d say that the locals (have) developed pretty well. (The talent) is more spread out now – there’s a lot of good players on each team,” he said.
He then continued, “The effort is still the same, they all play all-out, but I’d say that the locals are (now) more advanced skills-wise.”
Good thing then that Macklin himself has made a change – from wearing the Ginebra red to the Magnolia blue.
And for him, all of this is just work. “I got to take care of my family. I got respect for Ginebra, but these are my guys right now,” he said.
He then continued, “This is my job now and I will play hard for my team.”
