PBA: Always a pleasure to beat SMB says Newsome

"Of course, with the format this conference has, youíve got to beat teams you are suppose to beat and if you can snatch wins from strong teams, thatís always a pleasure," --- Chris Newsome.
Over the past couple of seasons, Meralco has always seen a spike in its performance during import-laced conference.
That's not a knock on their locals though, the Bolts' talents are just unlocked with a true center on the floor.
The 2018 Commissioner's Cup version of Meralco got its biggest win so far, spoiling the San Miguel debut of Christian Standhardinger as the Bolts knocked off the defending champs in the mid-season joust.
While it was just the conference opener of the Beermen, it was a big deal for Meralco to pick up the gutsy win.
Well, any time you beat San Miguel, it's always a big deal.
"Every time you get a win vs. SMB is a big win," Chris Newsome, who scored 22 points aainst the champs, said.
"Of course, with the format this conference has, you’ve got to beat teams you are suppose to beat and if you can snatch wins from strong teams, that’s always a pleasure," he added as the Bolts moved to 3-1 in the team standings.
Aside from getting a huge morale boost, Newsome adds that it works more in Meralco's favor to get their San Miguel assignment out of the way early.
It's just more practical for the Bolts to get their win now.
"Getting that win today puts us in position where we don’t have to play a game against them when they’re already clicking. They’re just coming off a championship and it takes time for them to get going," Newsome said.
"It will be a tougher SMB team next time. We expect that they’re gonna bounce back. They’re gonna figure things out. They’ve won championships. They have the same core sticking together. It works that way," he added.
