BINAN, LAGUNA --- For the first time since February, Greg Slaughter is back for the barangay and the former top pick made it count.
Slaughter played 25 solid minutes for the Gin Kings Friday, scoring 12 points to go along with four rebounds as Ginebra got its first win of the 2018 Commissioner's Cup, a 105-91 decision over Blackwater at the Alonte Sports Arena here.
"Man, it feels great running out there with the guys, it was a lot of fun," Slaughter said.
"But I gotta work in getting in shape, a few moments out there I as catching my breathe a little too hard. It's just a lot of fun, it feels great to be back and I'm excited to build on this," he added.
Recovering from a really bad ankle injury, Slaughter admitted he was frustrated with his delayed recovery.
There was hope of a Slaughter return in Ginebra's previous playoff run in the All-Filipino but it's only now that the star center was able to come back.
"It was just the worst," Greg said of the injury.
"It came out in the worst timing. We did everything we could to try and come back for the [PH Cup] playoffs but you know, obviously it was really bad. It was really frustrating but rather than be down about it, just gotta keep working to come back," he added.
While he can't say he's 100 percent just yet, Slaughter says he's feeling better.
And the upcoming All-Star break should just help him with his continued recovery.
"I felt pretty good on my ankle, it's just a little discomfort sometimes," Slaughter said.
"Definitely I'm not in shape yet, I need to work on that in the coming weeks. There's still time to get in shape," he added.
