Nandito kami sa sitwasyon na hindi pwedeng maging choosy sa mga panalo -- Kiefer Ravena
BINAN, Laguna -- It was an ugly win.
But at this point of the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, NLEX will just take any kind of win. Ugly or not.
The Road Warriors got the monkey off their backs with a 120-115 overtime win over Phoenix that could’ve been sealed in regulation if not for a late fourth quarter meltdown Friday at the Alonte Sports Arena here.
“We kind of played not to lose instead of fighting it out and really waiting for the final buzzer but again we’ll take it,” said NLEX rookie Kiefer Ravena. “Nandito kami sa sitwasyon na hindi pwedeng maging choosy sa mga panalo.”
The Road Warriors barged in the win column after a rusty start that saw NLEX drop three straight games.
“Medyo malaki-laking tinik yun (nabunot) knowing that we’re barely breathing kumbaga sa tubig, nandito na yung tubig (sa leeg) namin. Kumbaga survival mode na lang di ba?,” added Ravena, who had nine points in a 4-of-12 field goal shooting and four assists.
The Road Warriors built a 51-32 gap late in the second quarter only to see the Fuel Masters chip their lead down in the second half.
Phoenix unleashed a scorching 13-3 rally to turn a 101-91 deficit to 104-104 deadlock capped by a putback by Fuel Masters import James White with five ticks left.
Larry Fonacier came through for NLEX in overtime, hitting two triples, while Alex Mallari drilled another dagger three that took the fight out the Fuel Masters.
Arnett Moultrie dropped 37 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and had eight assists for the Road Warriors.
“But our import came through he had 37, 17, eight assists and everybody else stepped up,” said Ravena.
“Mahirap kasi kalaban ng Phoenix, kahit anong lamang mo sa sobrang deadly ng three-pointer nila, ilang minuto lang nawala nun tumabla na kaagad sila di ba?” he added.
NLEX will take on GlobalPort in their next outing.
