PBA: El Destructor or James White? Phoenix has quality options for import

El Destructor is here but Phoenix is sticking with James White as import in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup.
El Destructor is already in town but Phoenix is still rolling with young James White as import in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup.
The Fuel Masters are currently 2-2 in the mid-season joust and their performance has been inconsistent to say the very least.
To make matters just a little bit worse, White has seen a dip in his scoring the last two games, just one of the many problems head coach Louie Alas has to deal with so far.
In light with that, Alas revealed that Eugene Phelps, the Fuel Masters' resident import, is already in town practicing with the squad.
And while El Destructor is more than capable of playing in the Commissioner's Cup, he mostly sees action in the Governors' Cup.
For those who forgot, Phelps came in mid-conference and pushed Phoenix to the playoffs of the 2016 Governors' Cup. He had the Fuel Masters in a winning record last season before going down with injury.
Despite this development though, Alas maintains that White is his guy right now.
"Nandiyan na yung import ko for next conference," Alas said after Phoenix lost in overtime Friday to NLEX.
"Pero I told James na 'you are my import,'" he added. "Kung ano kumpiyansa mo, don't change it."
For White, who has failed to break the 20-point barrier in his last two games, he's taking everything in stride.
Whatever Alas asks him to do, he'll deliver he says.
"Coach Louie tells me my main focus is on defense. Offense is going to take care of itself. [Struggling] is part of basketball, my teammates are doing great so what I gotta do is step up my defense," White said.
"It starts at practice, just keep moving forward. Certain possessions we gotta take it with 100 percent effort. We'll look at this as a learning stage and move on," he added.
