PBA: Don’t worry, 0-2 San Miguel has been here before
Arwind Santos and San Miguel know a thing or two about slow starts in the PBA's middle conference

ANTIPOLO – San Miguel has suffered back-to-back losses to begin its title defense in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Still, head coach Leo Austria is not sweating their winless record. "I hope next game namin, maka-recover kami agad dito," he told reporters after their 119-123 loss to Rain or Shine on Sunday at the Ynares Center here.

He then continued, "I think if you still rememer before, after All-Filipino, nag-0-2 din kami and we were able to make it to the Finals and eventually win the championship."

Clarifications are in order as Austria's lone Commissioner's Cup title was in 2017 and then, they got off to a 5-0 start before winning it all.

What the always amiable mentor was probably pointing to was their 2015 Commissioner's Cup campaign when they got off to a 0-4 start right after winning the 2014-2015 Philippine Cup.

They eventually lost in the semifinals during that conference, but the point is that if there's one team who could dig out of holes, it would be San Miguel.

That is why they remain upbeat about their chances. "We're hoping na mangyari ulit sa amin," Austria said, still referring to how they overcame a 0-4 start to make the playoffs.

The first thing they have to do, though, is to go back to the system that had led them to many, many wins. "We have a lot of work to do kasi medyo nawala ang disiplina namin. Last conference, we were top three sa defense and number one sa offense and yun ang nawawala sa amin," their head coach shared.

He then contunued, "We have to keep adjusting kasi it's a different rotation, but I'm liking what I'm seeing naman sa team namin kasi nagpi-pick up na."
