PBA: ROS sends champion Beermen to 0-2 hole
After almost throwing the game in regulation, the Elasto Painters recovered in extra time, shutting down San Miguel and improve their record to 4-1, the best in the league.

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal --- Down goes San Miguel again.

Rain or Shine erased a 17-point deficit to take down the defending champion Beermen, scoring a sensational 123-119 overtime win in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup Sunday at the Ynares Center here.

After almost throwing the game in regulation, the Elasto Painters recovered in extra time, shutting down San Miguel and improve their record to 4-1, the best in the league.

With Troy Gillenwater ejected in the first half and June Mar Fajardo struggling with fouls for SMB, Rain or Shine turned to import Reggie Johnson and Raymond Almazan inside to get a huge lift for the win.

Johnson scored 27 points on top of 19 rebounds while Almazan powered his way to 25 points, eight in overtime, to go along with 14 boards.

Maverick Ahanmisi and Chris Tiu added 16 apiece while Gabe Norwood was good for 15 points, 10 in the fourth quarter and overtime.

"They showed their character today," head coach Caloy Garcia said of his wards.

"It was a test of character for both teams, and luckily we were able to pull this win. But it could have been better," he added.

Tied at 112, Rain or Shine got a chance to win in regulation but Norwood botched the inbounds play, leaving 10.5 seconds on the clock for the Beermen to work with.

Luckily for the Elasto Painters, Chris Ross missed the game winner as overtime ensued.

It was a game of runs from the start as the Elasto Painters took control early behind Reggie Johnson's 16 points in the opening period.

However, the Beermen would respond with a 40-19 run in the second quarter with Arwind Santos scoring 15 points. San Miguel would eventually lead by as many as 17, 66-49, at the start of the second half before Almazan led Rain or Shine's slow comeback.

Santos finished with 28 for the Beermn while June Mar Fajardo scored 26 before he fouled out. Marcio Lassiter added 18 and Christian Standhardinger was good for 17 points, however, he only got two in the second half and had zero points in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Gillenwater scored 11 before he got ejected in the first half for issuing a physical contact to a game official.
