" I know SMB is the favorite team, the favorite to win it, but I donít care. I aint laying down for nobody. That was a statement game for us," --- Reggie Johnson.
ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal --- The last time Reggine Johnson met Christian Standhardinger, the Fil-German forward scored 40 points and came away with a win.
But that was in the ABL where Johnson was playing for Mono Vampire and Standhardinger was leading Hong Kong Eastern.
They're both in the PBA now, and this time, it was Johnson that got the W as his Rain or Shine Elasto Painters won a sensational overtime decision over Standhardinger's San Miguel Beer.
However, the hulking import downplayed his "revenge game," though he considered getting one over the Beermen as a huge statement.
"I don't look at it as redemption, Johnson said with a laugh.
"You know, this is a whole new league, a whole new season, a whole new team. I know SMB is the favorite team, the favorite to win it, but I don’t care. I aint laying down for nobody. That was a statement game for us, but we gotta continue to play well and clear some things on our end to continue to be great," he added.
Johnson finished with 27 points and 19 rebounds for ROS as the Elasto Painters took over solo first in the Commissioner's Cup with a 4-1 mark.
At the same time, ROS sent the defending champion Beermen to a rare 0-2 hole.
Despite the strong start though, Johnson says ROS can still improve on a lot of things.
"We gotta clear some things in practice – communication, talking at the defensive end is very important and I don’t think we did a good job today, but we got the win," he said.
"We gotta watch some film and continue to get better. We got a big one against Global. I'm excited about that game also," Johnson added.
