PBA: Helpless Kiefer can only watch NLEX from afar for now
Ravena's suspension applies to all FIBA-sanctioned events. And while it's still unclear if that includes the PBA, Kiefer and the Road Warriors are taking the safe approach meaning the no. 2 overall pick from the 2017 Draft will just have to sit out for the meantime.

It's a weird feeling for Kiefer Ravena sitting a game out despite physically-capable to go.

As he deals with an 18-month suspension from FIBA for doping, Ravena missed NLEX's win over Blackwater in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup Wednesday.

Ravena's suspension applies to all FIBA-sanctioned events. And while it's still unclear if that includes the PBA, Kiefer and the Road Warriors are taking the safe approach meaning the no. 2 overall pick from the 2017 Draft will just have to sit out for the meantime.

"Medyo iba, kasi first time ko na ganitong persective na nanonood," Ravena said.

"Usually, it's either injured or coming from Gilas. But now, I'm free and able but not allowed to [play]. But God has His plans," he added.

As Ravena deals with his penalty, he can't join the national team in official practices.

And until the NLEX situation is cleared as well, Kiefer will have no choice but to stick to individual workouts. However, he still plans to support NLEX in any way that he can.

He's a Road Warrior after all.

"I'm not yet sure, I don't wanna violate any rules na maging complicated pa siya di ba. With respect to what the SBP said, all forms of leagues and activities. So you know, practice might be iffy and it might reach FIBA tapos mapahaba pa. Trying to be careful right now but I'm still supporting the team," he said.

"For now, individual workouts and go to practice every now and then. I also want to make my teammates feel na di lang ako yung may laban, sila din may pinagdadaan which is the conference. I'm still part of the team and I can't let go of that responsibility even though this has happened," Ravena added.

NLEX won its first game without Kiefer, a squeaker over the Blackwater Elite.

Ravena was at the Big Dome to watch and he's happy for sure. He's happy but it pains him to not join his squad on court.

"We won so I'm happy that I was able to watch the team play. I miss being out there with them especially in games na ganyan, nakaka-miss," he said.

"But I'm happy for them. I'm still part of one family, I'm still part of the NLEX Road Warriors. I may not be out there but I'll be there every step of the way just as they are with me," Ravena added.
